Description The Madera Subbasin exists within the larger San Joaquin Valley Groundwater basin, as described in the California Department of Water Resources Bulletin 118. The County of Madera is the exclusive GSA for the portion of the Madera Subbasin in the unincorporated area of the County, and not otherwise covered by another public agency. There are multiple GSAs within the Madera Subbasin, including the Madera County GSA, City of Madera GSA, Madera Irrigation District, Root Creek Water District, Madera Water District, Gravelly Ford Water District, New Stone Water District. If you’re not sure what GSA you are in, use this interactive map from Madera Irrigation District.
Basin Boundary Modification As of July 31, 2018, the County of Madera has requested modifications of the boundaries described in Bulletin 118. There are two different boundary modifications currently being requested. A full report is available here as item 7. (Please start on p. 66.) First, the County is requesting that DWR modify the definition of the Madera and North Kings subbasins such that the southern boundary of the Madera Subbasin follows the Madera County line, and the North Kings Subbasin’s northern boundary becomes the same line. Second, on behalf of the GSAs for the entire Madera Subbasin, the County will request that DWR remove the exclusion of Madera Lake from the recognized territory of the subbasin.
